Predestination
Predestination (vi: Thiên Cơ; zh: 天机) refers to what is decided to happen but is a mystery to humans as it is secret by nature, and is only revealed to those who have achieved a high level of spirituality. This concept is pervasive in East Asian philosophies in which Heaven is personified and has ability to reward and punish people depending on how they have behaved in this world. Heaven’s mandate, for another term, is the authority which Heaven bestows upon a king to rule his subjects and can be revoked if the king has not failed in his duties. In traditional beliefs, the revocation is expressed by natural and social upheavals.
