The Hoa Hao village has been reknown as the sacred site of Hoa Hao Buddhist Congregation where thousands of pilgrims flock to on its special anniversary of 18 May Lunar, especially from the Mekong Delta, But its name was changed to Phu Tan Township after the change of the regime in 1975, despite which the Hoa Hao Village remains the popular name to many Hoa Hao Buddhists for its historical and religious significance. Since the village has grown much larger as an economic and cultural center of the region, its upgrade to a higher level of administration was necessary. However, Hoa Hao which is intricately linked to a local religion, its name is still engraved in the memory of the majority of the Mekong residents. with numbers of its relics.
