Suchness Buddha, Sanskrit: Tathâgatha, translated into Chinese as Ru Lai. It is originally one of the ten titles of the Buddha: Ru Lai, Ying Gong, Zheng Bian Zhi, Ming Xing Fu, Shan Shi, Shi Jian Jie, Wu Shang Shi, Diao Yu Zhang Fu, Tian Ren Shi, Buddha. It means: Being thus, neither arising from anywhere nor going anywhere, relying on the true Dharma to attain perfect enlightenment, that is the true body of the Ru Lai. Relying on the true Dharma to come to the three realms to teach sentient beings is called the emanation body of the Ru Lai. The Diamond Sutra says: ‘The Tathâgatha comes from nowhere and goes nowhere; therefore he is called Tathâgatha.’ (The Tathâgatha neither comes from anywhere nor goes anywhere; yet he is everywhere, therefore he is called Tathâgatha). Here, Ru Lai refers to Gautama Buddha. The Master wrote: ‘Namo Gautama Tathâgatha, I, the Teacher of the Saha World, ask for Your guidance.’
