This passage means that out of compassion, the Dharma Master teaches the people a lot, not for money, yet there are many who dislike it. He advises everyone, even if they go to work in distant fields, to bring along the Sutras, so that during free time they can read and understand the meaning, aiming to practice accordingly.
It is sad for those who are poor, their hands covered in mud, living a life of hardship and toil throughout the year; seeing the wealthy living in luxury, they are very envious, but who would have foreseen:
“The workings of heaven change every minute,
Paths of prosperity and decline are like flying arrows,
The way of honor, shame, and misfortune comes in an instant.”
Though today things seem peaceful and comfortable, who knows if tomorrow will bring chaotic sadness. The Dharma Master further explains: in the future, the cruel will witness the accumulation of sorrow and suffering in quick succession. Out of great compassion for the people, He carefully instructs everyone to diligently recite the Buddha’s name frequently and to know how to be frugal and industrious, reducing extravagance and waste, because the situation:
“Poverty and hunger will be known from now on,
Foreign products will besiege Us with a pression.”
