Also known as Cù lao Ông Chưởng (or Rạch Ông Chưởng), Sir Chuong Islet (or Sir Chuong Riverlet) belonging to Định Hoà commune (Xã), Chợ Mới district (Quận), An Giang province. This islet used to be called “Tiêu Mộc.” Lord Chưởng Binh Lễ Thành Hầu Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh (Kính) suppressed the rebellion in Chân Lạp (Cambodia) in the year Kỷ Mão 1699, then stationed his troops here and later died of illness. The local people admired his merits and therefore renamed the place Cù lao Ông Chưởng in his honor. This is a densely populated and the largest islet in An Giang province, consisting of four communes: Kiến An, Mỹ Hội Đông, Nhơn Mỹ, and Long Kiến. People in the South often sing:
“Three times the crow spoke to the hawk,
Sir Chưởng Islet has plenty of fish and prawns.”
