Tianzhu, 天竹, also known as ‘Tianzhu’ (Heavenly Pillar), which is the term used in East Asia for India, and in a broad sense, it also refers to the entire South Asian subcontinent. In some ancient texts or legends, because Buddhism originated in the country of Tianzhu, Tianzhu is sometimes referred to as the Western Heaven. The term ‘Western Heaven’ itself can also be used to indicate the place where the sun sets in the west, the destination of the deceased, India, and the Western Pure Land. This situation gives the concept of the Western Heaven a sense of mystery in people’s minds, and in ancient times, people referred to this place as the Western world.
