Dirty minds: “Condition” refers to the cause or connection, the link from the past that extends to the present between two or more people. “Defilement” refers to accumulated dust and dirt, figuratively representing afflictions.
Severing the connection with defilements means severing all worldly attachments, eliminating all defilements: mistaken perceptions and mistaken thoughts (delusions of view and thought). Only then can one cleanse the defiled mind to attain purity, liberation, or rebirth in the Pure Land.
