According to Chinese historical records, at the beginning of Creation, Pangu was the first to appear and rule the planet Earth. Gradually, humankind and all things came into existence. Therefore, Pangu is called the progenitor of humankind. An ancient poem says:
“Pangu opened the furnace of creation, and the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors came to help the world.”

Pangu or Pan Gu[1] (also sometimes spelled Peng Gu and P’an-ku)[2][3] (Chinese: 盤古; pinyin: Pángǔ ; PAN-koo) is a primordial being and creation figure in Chinese mythology and in Taoism. According to legend, Pangu separated heaven and earth, and his body later became geographic features such as mountains and flowing water.
