Also known as the Three Cardinal Principles, these are the three important pillars of human conduct: 1. The principle of loyalty between ruler and subject; 2. The principle of filial piety between father and son; 3. The principle of loyalty between husband and wife.

Every aspect of life and conduct must be proper, such as: loyalty and righteousness between ruler and subject, filial piety between father and son, and mutual affection and devotion between husband and wife. The Master said:

“The five cardinal principles of propriety and righteousness are constant,
But loyalty and integrity are considered foolish by some.”

“Ngũ luân lễ nghĩa năm hằng,
Tam cang trung trực người rằng ngu si”.
