CÁCH CẦU NGUYỆN CHO NGƯỜI CHẾT

Mỗi người đứng trước bàn Phật niệm "Nam-mô Bổn-sư Thích- Ca Mâu-Ni Phật" (ba lần) và “Nam-Mô A-Di-Đà Phật” (ba lần).

Vái: "Phật-Tổ, Phật-Thầy, nay mình thành tâm cầu nguyện cho tên . . . . . . . . (tên người chết), nhờ ơn Đức Phật từ-bi cứu-độ vong-linh được thoát chốn mê-đồ, vãng- sanh miền Cực-lạc!"

Trong lúc ở nhà hay trong lúc đưa đám tang gì cũng vậy, nếu có tổ-chức sắp hàng chắp tay niệm : "Nam-mô Tây phương Cực-lạc thế giới tam-thập lục vạn ức, nhứt thập nhứt vạn, cửu thiên ngũ bá đồng danh đồng hiệu đại-từ đại-bi tiếp dẫn vong linh A-Di-Đà Phật" (nếu người chết là nhà sư thì câu chót đọc : "Tiếp dẫn đạo sư A-Di-Đà Phật") .

THE METHOD OF PRAYING FOR THE DEAD

Each person stands before the Buddha altar praying:”Namo Our Master Sakyamuni Buddha” (Three Times) and “Namo Amitabha”(Three Times).

Then continue praying:”The Most Venerable Patriarch Buddha and Master Buddha, now we faithfully pray for (the dead’s name). We beg Your Holiness compassionately to salvage the dead’s soul from the wrong path world so that it may be reborn into the Paradise!” .

While at home or in a cortege, if organized, line up and put two hands together praying: “Namo The Western Paradise, Thirty Six Million, One Hundred and Ten Thousands Nine Thousand Five Hundred worlds, together with great compassion, salvage the souls of the dead (if the dead is a votary, the last phrase should be “salvage the Reverend, Amitabha”) Note: The family of the dead must not cry lest this should impede the ascent of the dead’s soul.
