THIÊN LY CA

HEAVENLY REASON

Verses  201 - 300

(290) Đây sắp đến lầm than khắp chốn,

Alas! Once it turns yellow, it will slip!

In a thousand of years there is only one time,

On the Assembly, the Supreme will preside.

Whoever wants to stay near jade dais and edifices,

Must develop a life-long plan with goals to reach.

Hereto I give a few meaningful clauses,

Destroy worldliness and establish virtuousness.

I have expounded purities and impurities,

Like Bo Ya’ music are my advices.

(210) However sarcastic they are from near and far,

Whatever they think, I know my own heart.

I keep advising you even if I bear bitterness,

No matter whether the folks approve or reject.

In order to jump over the border,

Persist in your self-cultivating endeavour.

To fetch rare jewels, one must scan the oceans,

It is hard to distinguish between Devils and Saints.

I observe Buddhism by hiding in a layperson,

Regardless of the worldly derision.

(220) Few men have performed human precepts,

The awakened good man sees mystic depths.

The righteous and loyal equal the genial,

The contemporary yet call them puerile.

Those who paid off their duties expect to age well,

Loyal and filial nobles will deserve laurels.

In the world there happen a lot of sad things,

Practice is like a crowded market slow in sellings.

What a misery for those seeking fame and riches,

They should have engraved their practices.

(230) Despite anyone’s mockery and ridicule,

Improve your mind as though a fragrant bloom.

When the flowers are flourishing,

The world will have envy to go harvesting.

The moral statement is worth a radical probe,

The worldly should not go irate and explode.

Voilà, voilà! The West resounds with gunfire,

The Monkey and Rooster Years thunder alight.

The hordes of rogues and muggers,

They won’t practise till bloodshed spreads all over.

When my morals appear still dim and flickering,

(241) What for are you folks envying?

Melancholically I resort to poetry,

For the people’s love, I preach tenaciously.

But the folks have acknowledged no grace,

When they get well, they do no longer pray.

You should put these jade words in your heart,

Which now you hear from the bizarre.

Commit day and night to your practice,

So you may see states’ scramble for the Chin Hill (1).

(250) Now that it is the quiet night,

I jot a short message to those who are far away.

The Buddhists are by nature honest,

Do you still distinguish between good and bad?

Like chalk, the worldly is thankless,

They repent only when in distress.

In turmoil, try to take care of your parents,

Be patient and never take it for burden.

When the Seven Mountains reveal edifices,

My miracles will be exposed to the masses.

(260) I urge my adherents near and far to persevere,

The miracle and mystique are here.

Now that I am under the shadow of the French flag,

I borrow the flesh to show you good and bad.

My love of the masses sometimes wrenches my guts,

Albeit Mad, I neither have any access,

I resolve to protect my country and people as a must.

Nor do I grumble with the populace.

I tenderly laugh and cry at lengths,

I pity the loving partners hesitantly separate.

(270) I need no tea, fruit nor incense,

Provided the masses know their noble path.

Yet they listen to the Oracle like dream lurers,

Just seek to mock and loudly boast to others.

They rely on their being quite affluent,

So they disregard ancestors and ancients.

No matter whether people lke or hate,

Let's examine and contemplate.

A thunderbolt reveals golden stelae,

From over the world arrive the candidates

(280) Contest would trigger the onset of a tragedy,

The greed for treasures makes their fights so bloody.

After that, they become stressful in disillusion,

They face predicament for no previous cultivation.

They are reduced to stupidity by greed and fight,

As if a blind walked in the night.

I never contrive anything for the masses,

My tender love prompts me to jot messages.

However few they be, their ideas are profound,

It is wise to think them out.

(290) Henceforth calamities will spread all over,

Practice does not cost any money or silver.

By the way, remember my sermon,

You will see what will be in heaven.

I must avoid troublesome French patrols,

That’s why I take Crazy and Mad roles.

Who equals the man of beard and mustache,

Loving masses prompts me to exhort masses.

Still lying low and waiting for the right time,

I have to make some like and others deride.

(300) The good people are intelligent,

(1) CHIN MOUNTAIN: According to the Patriarch Buddha of the Western Peace's oracles,  Seven Mountains located in Chau Doc, An Giang Province, near the Vietnam-Cambodian border is called Chin Hill.

In Vol I Oracles, Master the Prophet affirmed:

After half a day, we reverse the vessel,

Back to Seven Mounts, we pity the people.

Master and disciples don’t complain,

We rove again around the Chin mountain."

(pp. 714-717)
