BÀI NGUYỆN TRƯỚC BÀN THỜ CỬU-HUYỀN

Đầu cúi lạy Cửu-Huyền Thất-Tổ,

Ngõ đáp ơn báo-bổ sanh thành.

Nay con qui Phật tu hành,

Cửu-Huyền Thất-Tổ lòng lành chứng tri.

Lời Phật dạy từ-bi bác-ái,

Dạ nhơn-từ quảng đại mở-mang.

Hiếu-trung con giữ vẹn toàn,

Từ rày chẳng dám lăng-loàn như xưa.

Sau hưởng đặng phước thừa của Phật,

Hồn nhẹ-nhàng vượt khỏi tử-sanh.

Nguyện đem công quả tu hành,

Cứu trong tông-tổ vãng-sanh liên-đài.

Về Phật-quốc ngày ngày an lạc,

Cả giống-dòng giải-thoát luân-trầm.

Rồi đem đạo-pháp huyền-thâm,

Độ trong sanh-chúng hết lầm hết mê.

Cả vạn-vật đồng về Phật cảnh,

Chẳng luyến trần ảo-ảnh gạt lường.

Nguyện cầu chư Phật mười phương,

Niết-Bàn tịch tịnh là đường vô-sanh.

(Bài nầy Đức Thầy viết tại Bạc-Liêu lối cuối năm Tân-Tỵ, nhưng vì thấy nó hơi dài nên Đức Thấy viết bài khác chỉ có 12 câu cho anh em bổn-đạo học mau thuộc. Ấy là bài “Cúi kính dưng hương trước Cửu-huyền”).

PRAYER BEFORE THE ANCESTRAL ALTAR

Kowtow to the Ancestors of all generations,

To thank you for birth giving and raising.

Now I take refuge in Buddha practicing,

Please bear witness to my devotion.

Buddha’s teachings focus on compassion,

His loving kindness and magnanimity.

I’ll accomplish filiality and loyalty,

Henceforth I daren’t dishonor our lineage.

So that I could receive Buddha’s grace,

For my soul to fly over the cycle of rebirth.

I vow to offer the fruit of my efforts,

For my ancestors to transmigrate to lotus.

On Buddhland, every day you’re joyous.

Our whole lineage shall no longer drown.

Then we'll bring our mystic way about,

To help the masses get rid of ignorance.

All creatures will receive deliverance,

No longer clinging to their delusions.

I pray to Buddhas from ten directions,

For guiding me to Nirvana's eternity.

(This poem was written by Lord Master at Bac Lieu in late Metal Snake, but seeing it quite long, He wrote another one only of 12 lines for his disciples to better memorize. This is “I bow and offer my incense to My ancestors”.)
